Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What about safety equipment?

The safety of our passengers and crew is of utmost importance. The boat is equipped accordingly over and above the Department’s recommendations.

Q: Do you provide bait?

Deep Sea Charters does not normally provide bait to passengers. Mackerel (our most popular bait) is usually feathered on the way to the fishing grounds.

Q: What happens to our catch?

Normally we release most of our catch, with species such as Blue Shark and Tope we tag and release, so that the Central Fisheries Board can monitor them. You are free to take home other species such as Cod, Mackerel, Ling and Pollack.

Q: What tackle should I bring?

You will usually need a 30lb class down tide outfit for general fishing i.e. Tope and Conger. You could also bring 12 - 20lb uptider / downtider for Pollack, Bass, Ray and so on. Braid fishes well in the stronger runs of tide and heads from 5oz to 1 1/2 oz should suffice.

Rods and reels are included in the charter price.

Q: What clothing should I bring?

We recommend you wear many layers of clothing rather than one heavy item. It is usually much cooler at sea due to the breeze being stronger. A good set of waterproofs is also advisable.

Q: Do I need to bring food?

Copious amounts of tea and coffee are provided onboard FOC. It is recommended you bring a packed lunch, this can be included if necessary at extra cost. There is a food heating facility onboard.
